2025 Yamaha XSR900 – First Look

Subtle upgrades for the big dog in Yamaha’s sport heritage line
We’ll just have to keep on making due with the less-faired XSR900 Stateside for 2025. Not the end of the world, I suppose since the XSR900 is built on Yamaha’s excellent -09 platform. For 2025, the biggest XSR gets a new five-inch TFT display, smartphone connectivity, customizable YRC ride modes, Yamaha’s third-generation quickshifter and more. Many of these updates were first introduced on the MT-09 for 2024.
New Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) settings allow the selection of engine power characteristics and electronic intervention levels to suit conditions or rider preference. For quick selections, three integrated riding modes are programmed with factory settings to suit different situations: Sport, Street and Rain. Additionally, riders can create two custom programs with tailored settings to suit their preferences. The new Back Slip Regulator works in conjunction with the slipper clutch to reduce rear wheel lock ups by adjusting the throttle bodies to decrease back torque. A speed limiting function is now also available for the XSR900.
Yamaha tells us the XSR900 also features a new fully adjustable KYB monoshock offering preload, high- and low-speed compression, and rebound adjustment, along with a revised linkage design for an “enhanced feeling of traction at the rear.”
The new TFT display is carried over from the MT and features four layout themes and offers smartphone connectivity via Yamaha's Y-Connect app to receive message notifications, calls and listen to music. Additionally, full turn-by-turn navigation is available through the Garmin StreetCross app. As seen on the 2025 Ténéré, the XSR900 gets updated switchgears and self-canceling turn signals for the coming model year.
The 2025 XSR900 features a number of specific ergonomic changes as well, including an updated seat design for improved rider and passenger comfort, new handlebar shape, new rubber-mounted footpegs, revised shift lever shape, a new 14-position adjustable clutch lever, and new dash-mounted USB-C outlet.
The new 2025 Yamaha XSR900 will be available in Raven or Heritage White and will begin arriving to dealers in April for $10,599 MSRP.

Fantastic. I'd estimated most of these changes a couple months ago, due to the design cycle rates between the XSR and MT. I think it's going to be hard to pick between the 2025 XSR900 and the updated Z900, just down to engine character and ergos honestly. Both are appealing.
MO.. any word on whether this updated XSR900 received the same increase in steering lock ratio that the MT got in 2024? Wondering if the handlebar shape (tank clearance) change has any relation to that.
Nice improvements and now 2 color options available unlike 2024. The XSR900 has a lot going for it, great engine plus more, all but looks. Just can't find anything attractive about its odd looks, only reason I'd never buy one.
